La Bandera Reef

THE AREA
The self-sufficient eco-system of the Bandera Reef has plenty to offer for both beginning and advance divers in the way of marine life. Between Isla Mujeres and Cancun is a long stretched coral reef area topped with elk horn coral. It is what would be considered a shallow reef ranging from 7–10 meters, but home to many species of fish including barracuda, angel fish, pompano, eel, sea turtles and a great amount of colorful tropical fish.
SCUBA DIVING
Because the reef can be found in shallow waters, it makes a great spot for beginning divers. While it does take a boat to reach the La Bandera Reef, it isn’t very far from Cancun and so the trip is not a long one. Due to the close proximity to Manchones and Isla Mujeres, two dives could be arranged so as to cover both areas in a single day.
